Finance community put brains together to raise money for local charities

Friday, 21 May 2010

- 21 May 2010

RBS International’s annual Brains Challenge has raised £4,572 for local charities bringing the total raised from this annual competition to almost £20,000.

The Brains Challenge, which takes place over the winter months, is hosted by the bank’s Intermediary Team and invites its intermediary clients to enter teams of four to compete in a knock out quiz league.  After five fiercely contested heats and an equally competitive final Willis Management Guernsey Limited emerged as victors from 52 teams in this year’s competition.

Rob Girard, Island Director, RBS International, commented:

“The Brains Challenge is a great way to bring together members of the local finance sector and raise money for some of the charities in our community. The Challenge has been running for four years now and has proved a very popular way to pass some of the long winter evenings. No team has yet defended the title successfully so it will be interesting to see if Willis can break this jinx and make it a double in the 2011 RBSI Brains Challenge.”

Entrants nominate the charities they feel would benefit from the money raised and this year it was split between the Alzheimer's Society (to assist RBS International employee Mike Lewis who is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in support of the charity), the Guernsey branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, MacMillan Cancer Relief, Les Bourgs Hospice, Premature Baby Fund, Guernsey Bereavement Society, Guernsey Blind Society and the Guernsey Special Olympics.

Preparations for next year’s competition are already in hand with the bank’s intermediary team keen to see the support for these worthy causes continue.
