RBS International merges existing operations to signal its commitment to Guernsey’s business community

The Royal Bank of Scotland International in Guernsey has integrated three separate banking teams in order to form a single corporate, commercial and business division to service the trading business community in the Island.

Led by Gary O’Neill, Head of Corporate, Commercial and Business Banking, the newly formed division comprises a team of 20 staff, including nine relationship directors, forming one of the largest groups of finance specialists meeting the banking needs of the trading business community in Guernsey.

Historically the bank operated separate departments to handle the needs of medium sized and smaller businesses, the larger commercial sector in Guernsey and the major corporate sector. These departments have been brought together under one roof and operate from offices at the Royal Bank Place headquarters.

As part of the integration, Scott Philpott has been appointed as Senior Relationship Director within the new division. Scott joined NatWest in 1987 and he worked for the banking group in business development and client relationship roles in London and the south east of England from 1997 until his move to Guernsey in 2005 when he joined RBS International as a Relationship Director.

Rob Girard, Island Director, The Royal Bank of Scotland International, commented:

‘By merging these teams, we have created one division containing staff with all the skills and banking experience necessary to support the entire range of businesses that trade in Guernsey. The move brings together staff working for both the RBS International and NatWest brands, the Group’s main operating franchises in Guernsey, and it signals our continued commitment and focus on the business community in Guernsey. Scott’s appointment further strengthens the experience we can offer to clients in the Island.’

Gary O’Neill, head of the newly formed division added:

‘Despite the economic conditions, Guernsey’s business community has remained vibrant and extremely diverse and by creating one team, our business customers know they can reach the full breadth and depth of our expertise and experience through contact with a dedicated relationship manager working in this division.’
