Businesses 'should not judge staff on age'

Staff should judge those in banking jobs and other positions on their abilities rather than their age, the chief executive of one charity has urged.
Jane Ashcroft of Anchor, which provides housing and care to older people, said it is important businesses give a role to "the right person", regardless of their age.
She stated that "recognising people for their skills, not labelling people by their age" is key for employers and told them they should not let someone's age influence the recruitment process.
"This is about calling for a level playing field and for age not to be used to make decisions about people," Ms Ashcroft remarked.
Her comments came after a study by the Mannheim Research Institute for the Economics of Aging conducted earlier this month revealed older personnel are not less productive than their younger counterparts and make hardly any severe errors, potentially because of their experience.
