PwC sees 'huge increase' in graduate applicants

Wednesday, 27 April 2011

PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has revealed that a record number of graduates have applied for accounting jobs and other positions at the organisation so far this year.

A total of 209 places were given to applicants, who will start work this spring, but there were 5,877 applications for these posts.

Compared with last year, this marks a 192 per cent increase and is 446 per cent higher than the number of people looking for accountancy jobs and other roles in the company in 2009.

Figures released earlier this month by the Office of National Statistics revealed that in the country as a whole, the number of people in work in the three months leading up to February 2011 was 143,000 higher than in the preceding quarter.

Ian Powell, chairman and senior partner at PwC, commented: "The recovery is bringing fresh opportunities and the business is growing, so maintaining and increasing the investment and value we have placed in our graduate recruitment numbers has massively paid off."
