TUC urges employees to grant royal wedding holiday
Wednesday, 20 April 2011
Businesses employing workers in private banking jobs need to ensure their personnel do not miss out on enjoying the royal wedding bank holiday.
This is the opinion of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), which has urged all firms that have not yet made a decision on whether to give workers the day off to do so.
General Secretary Brendan Barber noted that while the vast majority of businesses are allowing people to not come into work on April 29th, there is a "significant minority" of enterprises that are "keeping staff chained to their desks".
"Not offering paid leave or overtime will rebound on employers as they risk demoralising their workforce and damaging their reputation amongst their customers," Mr Barber stated.
He also urged the government to alter the law so the same situation does not occur on June 5th next year when the queen's diamond jubilee takes place.
Around 2 billion people worldwide are expected to tune into marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton, which is taking place at Westminster Abbey.
