Beautiful Nevis is a member of the Leeward islands in the Caribbean, about 200 miles southeast of Puerto Rico and 1000 miles south of Miami. The climate is near-perfect and the island is encircled by miles of breathtaking palm-fringed beaches. Nevis is linked to the US telephone system and the island has excellent communications facilities. The official currency used on the island is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (ECD) shared by eight states throughout the Eastern Caribbean and controlled by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB). The ECD is pegged to the US dollar (USD) and fixed at ECD 2.70 per USD. The USD is generally considered to be a second currency and is freely accepted and interchangeable throughout the island. The legal system on the island is based upon English common law.
As a result of its progressive legislation, Nevis has become a leader in the growing offshore financial field and has emerged as a mature Caribbean centre for offshore company formation purposes as well as a widely used corporate and trust domicile. The government continues to support the offshore industry and develop legislation to attract worldwide investment. Nevis is developing as a global financial center, with the establishment of trust, limited liability companies and international private banking and related financial services.
