Wage pressures 'not leading to pay rises'
Thursday, 28 April 2011
Individuals in tax jobs may be among those who are not seeing significant increases in their pay, despite growing wage pressures.
This is according to XpertHR, which noted that the combination of a high rate of inflation and the fact that many employees have not seen increases for the last two years will mean many workers will expect a rise in 2011.
However, new figures from the company revealed that pay settlements remain subdued, with the median increase in the first quarter of the year at 2.3 per cent.
Pay and benefits editor at XpertHR Sheila Attwood said: "It is likely that employees will continue to exert pressure on employers for a decent pay rise, but our research suggests that pay rises will remain well below three per cent for the remainder of 2011."
Workers in the City may be seeing larger than average awards, on the other hand, with a recent report from the Centre for Economics and Business Research stating that the average increase for those employed in the financial sector was seven per cent.
