Many countries such as Switzerland offer favourable tax rates, and smaller countries such as Lichtenstein are currently actively encouraging financial services and foreign business, while Moscow has seen exponential rates of growth in its business sectors over the last decade.
Those involved in the financial industry should not overlook the opportunities offered in places such as Luxembourg, the second largest investment fund centre in the world, Basel, home of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, or Malta, home to many offshore foreign banks and an international financial centre. Those with experience of the offshore market have many locations they can explore, and anyone with language skills is also at an advantage. Although English is widely spoken in the business world, any grasp of local languages is appreciated, and if moving to Moscow you will need to know Cyrillic for day to day life.
Many immigrants find that they are able to enjoy lower living costs and/or higher salaries by moving within Europe. Working within law or finance, English speakers can command high salaries, and standards in health care and education are often very good in these areas. For example, in Liechtenstein all workers receive mandatory health insurance and the health system is excellent. Monaco has the highest GDP per capita in the world and 0% unemployment, while Malta has a very low crime rate.
With English widely spoken across Europe and movement between countries easy, the opportunities for expansion and relocation are large and exciting. With fast transport links within mainland Europe, and connections to the UK and the rest of the world, the potential is huge.
Visas:
Restrictions will obviously vary, however moving from the UK to most EEA countries is easy, as is movement from one country to another for EEA nationals. For those outside of Europe, advice should be sought regarding how to obtain work permits and sponsorship.
