Located in a bay on the southwest coast of the Persian Gulf, Bahrain is an archipelago of 33 islands covering 741 square kilometres in the Arabian Gulf. It lies east of Saudi Arabia, and north of Qatar.

Renowned for its welcoming, friendly and open environment, it has a population of around 1.41 million people. Just 48% of the population are Bahraini nationals, while the rest are expats from all over the world. While Arabic is the region’s official language, English is widely spoken. It is taught as a compulsory second language in schools, and is widely used in business.

In order to set up a company in Bahrain, you will need to gather various documents, including a Certificate of Incorporation, Memorandum/Articles of Association, and a Shareholders’ agreement. You will also need at least two directors and two shareholders, as well as a legal registered address. It takes approximately 12 weeks to complete the company registration process.

In order to gain employment here, you will need to be sponsored by your employer, who will sponsor you for both a work permit and a visa. You will need to obtain both of these before entering Bahrain. In accordance with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, your employer will need to file the necessary documents with the Labour Market Regulatory Authority before you arrive in Bahrain.
