Greece, or the Hellenic Republic, is located in south-eastern Europe with Athens as the capital and borders with Albania, Macedonia, Turkey and Bulgaria. The large majority of the population are Greek Orthodox. There is a great amount of history in the country and attracts tourists from all over the world.
Income tax in Greece is progressive. The tax rate varies from 15%-40%. However, there are some exceptions given to taxpayers with specific types of income. Any income under €10,500 per annum is not taxed at all, and income exceeding €75,000 is taxed at 40%. When it comes to corporate tax, there is a standard rate of 25%. However, partnerships can enjoy a 5% reduction and just pay 20%. Employers in Greece are obliged to pay a social security fee that is 28.06% of the employee's salary whilst the employee just has to pay 16%. The financial sector in Greece is growing and has been renowned of as "the gateway to the future" by some. Capital gains for stocks traded on the stock exchange are subject to a 10% charge (providing they were purchased after 2009). The GDP per capita is just over $30,000 and gross GDP is roughly $315 billion.
SA, GP, LLC and LP are the four different types of corporate companies that can be established in Greece. After all the legal procedures, the potential company must register with the chamber of commerce. Applying for a VAT number to be registered to the company is compulsory along with a "license to practice", depending on what type of company it is.
Greece joined the European Union and adopted the euro currency in 2002. As a result of this, EU nationals can live and work in Greece without having to apply for a work permit or visa. If you are not an EU national, you have to obtain a work permit and/or visa in order to live and work in Greece. This can usually be sponsored by the employer for whom you are working for.
